I completed my Master of Social Work at Western Michigan University with a clinical emphasis on providing person-centered counseling from a strength-based perspective. I have enhanced my content knowledge and clinical skills through additional university study, national, state and local conferences.
Counseling the heart is my approach for supporting clients on their emotional wellness journey. It is an approach in which I seek to know you as a person without an agenda and uncover your inner strengths to transcend current challenges. This approach emphasizes self-acceptance and developing compassion for self and others. It is about instilling hope for the future. I encourage clients to see beyond a diagnosis and truly find who they are as a person.
Life is a journey and sometimes we encounter life challenges and pain that impedes our ability to advance beyond the challenge. We become stuck. The weight of the challenge and life experiences may feel overwhelming but you do not have to carry the weight of it alone. As a therapist, I join in with you on the journey to forgive the past, identify goals, brainstorm/problem-solve solutions, develop self-care practices, accept emotions by being present, and learn strategies to manage emotions that are challenging.
